Voluntary Vandalism
In 2019 in Minsk, during the Performensk Festival, the artists prepared a sound performance and an installation titled Voluntary Vandalism.
In a series of short sound performances, taking place every one hour, the artists showed micro compositions, arranged for voice and synthesizer. Every performance had been recorded in real time and the sound material of each became then modified and deformed, followed by a gradual destruction by use of an algorithm. The sound installation was most of all an ephemeral action, continuously changing, aiming the process of alternate creation and disappearing, construction and deconstruction. In 1979 Joseph Beuys said "once [the objects] left my hands, they are free..." We left our sound free, we gave up control in a sonoclastic gesture, we did a voluntary vandalism.
